Factories Close In Tianjin For Olympics

40 factories in Tianjin will be temporarily closed later this month in an attempt to reduce air pollution in Beijing during the Olympic Games.

The busy industrial port city of Tianjin has an urban area in size only behind that of Shanghai and Beijing. Tianjin will also host some of the games of the Olympic soccer tournament.

Xinhua news agency reported that 26 construction sites, six factories and two cement works will close.

In Tangshan, 150km east of the capital up to 300 factories have been ordered to shut down for the duration of the Games.
