
Qufu is a peaceful, rural Chinese city with a population of around 630,000 residents, of whom 125,000 have the family name "Kong," anglicized as "Confucius." Qufu is the home town of China's most famous sage and philosopher and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to pay their respects at the Confucius temple in town.

The Temple of Confucius, the Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion are all listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Temple of Confucius is also the second largest historical building complex after the Forbidden City in Beijing.
